Hosea Ballou died today – 155 years ago

U.S. theologian Hosea Ballou was born on April 30, 1771 in Richmond, New Hampshire. He said, “Forty is the old age of youth, fifty is the youth of old age." {2} [I just knew I was still in my youth.]... Mr. Ballou died in 1852 in Boston, Massachusetts.

U.S. actor Edwin Booth was born on November 13, 1833 near Bel Air, Maryland. He was the younger brother of John Wilkes Booth. He said, “When you are older you will understand how precious little things, seemingly of no value in themselves, can be loved and prized above all price when they convey the love and thoughtfulness of a good heart.” {2} [Bless the little things. U.S. actress Jean Harlow was born as Harlean Harlow Carpenter on March 3, 1911 in Kansas City, Missouri. She said, “When you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.” {3} [Does that apply to cats, too?]... Ms. Harlow died in 1937 in Los Angeles, California.

English writer E. M. Forster was born on January 1, 1879 in Marylebone, London, England. He said, “I am sure that if the mothers of various nations could meet, there would be no more wars.” {2} [Bless the mothers. Bless them all.]... Mr. Forster died in 1970 in Coventry, Warwickshire, England.

U.S. writer Henry Miller was born on December 26, 1891 in Manhattan, New York City, New York. He said, “Whatever there be of progress in life comes not through adaptation but through daring.” {2} [So I dare you to progress.]... Mr. Miller died in 1980 in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, California.
