John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton died today – 105 years ago

English historian John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton (known as Lord Acton) was born on January 10, 1834 in Naples, Italy. He said, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." {1} [It may take much less than absolute.]... Mr. Dalberg-Acton died in 1902 in Tegernsee, Bavaria.

English writer Jerome Klapka Jerome was born on May 2, 1859 in Walsall, England. He said, “It is always the best policy to speak the truth, unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar.” {2} [Uhhhhhh, nope.]... Mr. Jerome died in 1927 in Northampton, England.

IBM president Thomas John Watson, Jr. was born on February 17, 1874 in Campbell, New York. According to Wikipedia, he probably DID NOT say, "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." [But they were so big back then!]... Mr. Watson died in 1956 in New York City, New York.

English writer William Gerald Golding was born on September 19, 1911 in Newquay, Cornwall, England. He wrote “Lord of the Flies.” He said, “An orotundity, which I define as Nobelitis a pomposity in which one is treated as representative of more than oneself by someone conscious of representing more than himself.” {2} [Uhhhhhhh, yeah.]... Mr. Golding died in 1993 in Perranarworthal, Cornwall, England.
