Niccolo Machiavelli died today – 480 years ago

Italian writer Niccolo Machiavelli was born on May 3, 1469 in Florence, Italy. He said, “Benefits should be conferred gradually; and in that way they will taste better.” {1} [Bits of freedom are not liberty, but license.]... Mr. Machiavelli died in 1527 in Florence, Italy.

U.S. football coach (Notre Dame) Frank Leahy was born on August 27, 1908 in O'Neill, Nebraska. He said, “When the going gets tough, let the tough get going.” {1} [I’ve always thought that this quote meant that the tough don’t give up. But, perhaps it means that the tough find another way around the problem.]... Mr. Leahy died in 1973 in Portland, Oregon.

U.S. actor Carroll "Archie Bunker" O'Connor was born on August 2, 1924 in the Bronx, New York City, New York. He said, “I have heard show business characterized as a refuge for childlike persons in flight from all things harsh and real.” {1} [And here I thought show business – scripted things – was real life... Oh, my!]... Mr. O’Connor died in 2001 in Culver City, California.
