Singer, songwriter (of I Got You Babe), and entertainer (on The Sonny and Cher Show) Sonny Bono was born as Salvatore Phillip Bono on February 16, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Bono died on January 5, 1998 in South Lake Tahoe, California.
