Edward Gibbon died today – 214 years ago

English historian Edward Gibbon was born on April 27 (or May 8), 1737 in Putney (near London), Surrey, England. He said, “History is indeed little more than the register of the crimes, follies, and misfortunes of mankind." [It depends upon which book you read.]... Mr. Gibbon died in 1794 in London, England.

After over two years I'm closing in on the completion of "Decline & Fall". One of the most amazing works of literature I've ever read. It's taken so long to read, (not only because it is long), but because so many sentences and thoughts, (and footnote!) are worth delectating over. The depth of original research is astonishing. A real artist! Does anyone know of a "Decline and Fall"
blog or discussion group?
