U.S. astronaut and teacher Sharon Christa Corrigan McAuliffe was born on September 2, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts.
She said, “The president felt that it was important to send an ordinary citizen to experience the excitement of space travel as a representative for all Americans." [That’s so nice that we could have a vicarious experience.]... Ms. McAuliffe died in 1986 in the Space Shuttle Challenger out of Cape Canaveral, Florida.
