Sir Thomas More died today – 472 years ago

English writer Sir Thomas More was born on February 7, 1478 in London, England. He said, “One of the greatest problems of our time is that many are schooled but few are educated.” {1} [How times have changed... not!]... Mr. More died in 1535 in London, England.

Scottish writer Kenneth Grahame was born on March 8, 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He said, “It is the restrictions placed on vice by our social code which make its pursuit so peculiarly agreeable." {2} [Just too tempting, huh?]... Mr. Grahame died in 1932 in Pangbourne, Berkshire, England.

Welsh politician Aneurin Bevan was born on November 15, 1897 in Tredegar, Monmouthshire, Wales. He said, “Freedom is the by-product of economic surplus.” {1} [Wrong. Economic surplus is the by-product of liberty.]... Mr. Bevan died in 1960 in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, England.

U.S. bandleader & singer Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He said, “All music is folk music, I ain't never heard no horse sing a song.” {1} [Guess he never saw Mr. Ed.]... Mr. Armstrong died in 1971 in Corona, Queens, New York City, New York.

U.S. dancer & actor Buddy Ebsen was born as Christian Rudolf Ebsen Jr. on April 2, 1908 in Belleville, Illinois. He said, “I had a mother who taught me there is no such thing as failure. It is just a temporary postponement of success.” {1} [Bless the mothers.]... Mr. Ebsen died in 2003 in Torrance, California.
