Robert G. Ingersoll died today – 108 years ago

U.S. speech writer Robert G. Ingersoll was born on August 11, 1833 in Dresden, New York. There is a statue of him in Peoria, Illinois. In his “Some Mistakes of Moses”, he said, “Churches are becoming political organizations... It probably will not be long until the churches will divide as sharply upon political, as upon theological questions.” {1} [And to realize that this was written in 1879.]... Mr. Ingersoll died in 1899 in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

Scottish poet Robert Burns was born on January 25, 1759 in Alloway, South Ayrshire, Scotland. He said, “The best plans of men and mice often go awry.” {1} [Those mice just need better plans.]... Mr. Burns died in 1796 in Dumfries, Scotland.

U.S. advertising executive David MacKenzie Ogilvy was born on June 23, 1911 in West Horsley, Surrey, England. He said, “Develop your eccentricities while you are young. That way, when you get old, people won't think you're going gaga.” {1} [I’ve been working on it for years. I may have it perfected.]... Mr. Ogilvy died in 1999 in Touffou, France.

U.S. composer Jerry Goldsmith was born on February 10, 1929 in Pasadena, California. He said, “I think, first, that there's too much music in films today." {2} [Perhaps the loud music helps to cover up for the lack of intelligent conversation.]... Mr. Goldsmith died in 2004 in Beverly Hills, California.
