Fred Whipple died today – 4 years ago

Astronomer (proposing the dirty snowball hypothesis of comet composition) Fred Lawrence Whipple was born on November 5, 1906 in Red Oak, Iowa. Mr. Whipple died on August 30, 2004 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
