Bill Monroe was born on September 13, 1911 as William Smith Monroe near Rosine, Kentucky. He wrote and sang the song Blue Moon of Kentucky. He co-played the song The Ballad of Jed Clampett (the theme song for the TV sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies)... Mr. Monroe died on September 9, 1996 in Nashville, Tennessee.
