In 1981 the Commodore VIC-20 was sold for $299. It had 5KB of RAM. It used a cassette tape drive to store/load programs. It was discontinued in 1985. If you want to watch a commercial for it by Captain Kirk - I mean, William Shatner - then click here.
In 1982 the Commodore 64 was sold for $595. It had 64KB of RAM (hence the name). Wow! 64K... Well, it was a big deal, in its day... It was sadly discontinued in 1993.
