Pianist and composer (of Pontchartrain) Jelly Roll Morton was born as Ferdinand Joseph Lamothe on September 20, 1885 or October 20, 1890 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He said, “Get up from that piano. You hurtin' its feelings." [He certainly wasn’t talking about Arthur Rubinstein or Sergei Rachmaninoff.]... Mr. Morton died from heart failure on July 10, 1941 in Los Angeles, Califonia.
