Singer (in “The Mamas and the Papas”) and songwriter (of “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)” (1967)) John Phillips was born as John Edmund Andrew Phillips on August 30, 1935 in Parris Island, South Carolina. He said, “If you're going to San Francisco, You're gonna meet some gentle people there." [They’re very nearly everywhere.]... Mr. Phillips died on March 18, 2001 in Los Angeles, California.
