Bandleader (of the Count Basie Orchestra) William James “Count” Basie was born on August 21, 1904 in Red Bank, New Jersey. He said, “If you play a tune and a person don't tap their feet, don't play the tune." [Yep!]... Mr. Basie died on April 26, 1984 in Hollywood, Florida.
