Author (of “The Scarlet Letter” and “The House of the Seven Gables”) Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on July 4, 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts. He said, “Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you." [And running around, chasing it, can wear one out.]... Mr. Hawthorne died on May 19, 1864 in Plymouth, New Hampshire.
